Local Area Information
Coldwell Farm is conveniently located only 2.5 miles from the Historic Market Town of Leominster - famous for "Lemster Or", the highly prized and valuable lustrous Golden Fleece of her native Ryeland Sheep (considered so valuable, one year's wool clip helped pay the ransom to free Richard The Lionheart); fine medieval buildings and Grade I Listed Priory Minster church with Romanesque architecture (oldest religious foundation in Herefordshire), founded in 660AD and surrounding 'Black & White' villages, make this area one of the finest jewels in England's Crown. The cathedral city of Hereford is about 12 miles to the south and Ludlow is about the same distance to the north.
Herefordshire, considered England's most rural county, is probably most famous for Hereford Cattle, Cider and the Mappa Mundi, now on display at Hereford Cathedral. The area is steeped in history- Leominster is not far from England's border with Wales and Offa's Dyke, in an area referred to as the Welsh Marches with numerous Iron Age Hill Forts, Norman & medieval castles. There's lots of sightseeing, country walks, cycling and riding so The Quail House (and Shepherd's Hut) is in a great location as a base for touring the area.
We have lots of brochures and leaflets available for events, places to visit and activities to enjoy in the area - here are just a few:
